Maihar (Princely state)

Highness Maharaja Shrimant Saheb Akshayraj Singh Judev Bahadur, 12th Maharaja Saheb of Maihar (born 1985) married HH Maharani Saheb Swarnim Kumari Judev on 26 February 2014, daughter of Shri Kunwar Aditya Vardhan Singhji Hazari and Late Smt. Padmaja Raje Hazariof Hatta. They had one daughter.

Maihar (Music renowned City)

Ustad Allauddin Khan (1862 – 6 September 1972) was a very famous Sarod player and was also adept at playing other musical instruments. He is considered an incomparable musician and one of the greatest music teachers of the twentieth century. In 1935, Khan sahab toured Europe with Pandit Uday Shankar’s ballet group and after this, he was also associated with the ‘Uday Shankar India Culture Center’ located in Almora, Uttarakhand for a long time. In his lifetime, he composed many ragas and laid the foundation of the Maihar Gharana, famous in the world music world. Among his most special recordings, his recordings made with All India Radio in the 1950-60s are the most famous. Maihar is famous for two things – the temple of Maa Sharda Devi and as the work place of Padma Vibhushan Ustad Baba Allauddin Khan. Baba Allauddin Khan was born in 1862 in East Bengal which is today Bangladesh.

It is believed that he was a part of the disciple tradition of Miyan Tansen. His many famous disciples include artists like Pandit Ravi Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan.

A major achievement of Baba Allauddin Khan was the formation of Maihar ” वाद्य वृंद ” .

Maharaj Brijnath Singh of Maihar brought him to Maihar in the early twentieth century. But Baba used to sing more regularly in the temple of Maa Sharda Devi than he played in the court. Rajmata Kaviteshwari Devi told that a major achievement of Baba Allauddin Khan was the formation of Maihar ” वाद्य वृंद “.
